I find it unfortunate that we need to consider amendments to the United States Constitution, but we have reached a point where changes are needed as politicians have failed to abide by constitutional mandates. Some changes can safely be statutory while others must be foundational.
Constitutional Amendment:
Specific limitations of rights and protections for corporations must be established.
Constitutional Amendment:
In the context of political activity, money cannot be considered the equivalent of free speech and should not receive the same protections.
Constitutional Amendment:
Pardons are abused now. Pardons should be submitted to Congress and Congress should have a short period of time to override them by a two-thirds vote or they become permanent.
Constitutional Amendment:
The number of justices should be set. Their terms of service should be a set number of years. Selection of potential justices should come from judges randomly selected who are currently serving on the various Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal. A pool of three judges are selected, from which the Senate must confirm one and must do so within 60 days of a vacancy or the judge is randomly chosen.
Constitutional Amendment:
Congressional districts must be equitably and logically created.
Statutory:
While individuals should be free to tell lies, they cannot be permitted to make their living off those lies.
Statutory or Constitutional:
Punishment on behalf of a government should be administered by a government who is accountable to the people.
Statutory or Constitutional:
Waging war should must be done by the government only.
Constitutional:
Appointments submitted to the Senate for approval must be heard within a specified time or the appointment is deemed approved.
